What To Expect At Your Visit

Whether you have previously engaged a mental health professional or not, psychological therapy can be a new or even intimidating process. This can usually be attributed to the process of change which can be a potentially difficult process. However, change is not always bad. It is by embracing change that we notice positive growth and a renewed outlook on life. Aveen can work together with you to help get you back on track through the application of the tools and professional experience acquired. He employs a multitude of empirically backed techniques which are applied on a case-by-case basis.

Stress

Generally, stress can be a powerful driver for change. However, when stress is not managed well or is ongoing over a substantial period of time i.e. chronic stress, it can lead to various mental and physical health issues. Chronic stress have been found to cause wear and tear on the systems within the human body such as the immune system. This makes the individual vulnerable to conditions like depression, anxiety and cardiovascular diseases. Even though stress is sometimes an inevitable component of daily life, efficient stress management is a valuable way of buffering the negative impacts of stress on the human body.

Abstract Structure

Anxiety

Anxiety is commonly associated with an increased heart rate, tensing of the muscles and heightened alertness. This prepares the body for the 'fight or flight' reaction, either fighting a perceived threat or fleeing from it. From an evolutionary perspective, this promotes a higher chance of survival against danger e.g. predators. However, when anxiety is is not proportionate to the situation, the individual is constantly in a 'fight or flight' mode. This contributes to trembling, headaches, sleep disorders and difficulty concentrating. In the case of chronic anxiety, studies have demonstrated its link to gastrointestinal and cardiovascular disorders. Evidence demonstrates that psychotherapy is an effective form of treatment in the management of anxiety disorders.

Depression

Experiencing sadness or low mood is usually a part of life. It promotes self reflection which in turn allows for a greater understanding of our mental processes. This, however, is problematic when such a depressive state of mind is prolonged over a period of time. Some signs include significant changes such as  losing interest in daily activities , sleep or appetite changes. In the more extreme end of the scale, depression has even been closely associated with suicide. Psychotherapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) allow clients to not only acquire a deeper understanding of their depressive episodes but also allow for the promotion of a greater sense of well-being and overall quality of life.
